Born in Aix-en-Provence, France, on June 17, 1944, Jacques Pellegrin is a self-taught artist-painter. He painted his first oil canvas at the young age of eight. At 10 and 11 years old, he was awarded first prize and the prize of honor from the city of Aix (Medal of the Ministry of Youth and Sports).
Throughout his youth, Pellegrin painted in a classical realist style before discovering Impressionism, an influence that lasted until 1970. He pursued higher education at the University of Aix from 1968 to 1974, obtaining a degree in German. In parallel, he studied the German translation of Expressionism in painting.
Since 1980, Pellegrin has dedicated himself to painting, influenced by the French Fauve-Expressionist movement. His work draws inspiration from masters such as Van Gogh, Derain, Marquet, and Matisse, as well as the Provencal and Marseillaise schools of Chabaud, Verdilhan, and Ambrogiani. His fundamental guiding principle is to "paint and repaint his era, his time." His artistic practice also extends to sculpture-modeling, pottery painting, and poetry-writing.
