Oil on Canvas (UNFRAMED)

This painting depicts the Yarungkanyi Jukurrpa, or Mt Doreen Dreaming. The story originates from the Mt Doreen area, north-west of Yuendumu. In the Dreamtime, people lived in this area, digging for 'ngarlajiyi' (bush carrot) and in doing so, created a creek that flows north to Jurlpungu.
The artwork shows women seated, picking 'ngamirdamirdi' (lifesaver burr), a low-growing prickle. The women would thread the Ngamirdamirdi onto sticks to create hair combs. The story follows these women as they travelled south to Yukurra.
