ELAINE LARUS
86cm x 71.5cm
Mixed Media on Canvas (FRAMED)
Location: Onsite
An Abstract Expressionist lithograph on BFK Rives paper, this vibrant late 20th-century piece by French artist Eliane Larus captures the energy of a lively countryside outing. The scene is filled with movement and bright colours, depicting people walking their dog on a breezy, sunlit day. The flattened forms and lack of perspective are characteristic of the 'art brut' style, and the figures—outlined with thin, almost stick-like lines—recall the figures in a Lowry painting. Despite the simplicity of their forms, the faces all engage directly with the viewer, pulling them into the scene. A bold, radiant spectrum of colors dominates the composition, creating a joyful and uplifting atmosphere.
Eliane Larus was born on April 24, 1944, in Le Pin. She enrolled at the 'Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts' in Tours in 1963, graduating in 1967, and continued her studies at the 'Ecole des Beaux-Arts' in Paris under painter Gustave Singier until 1969. Between 1968 and 1978, she combined her personal practice with teaching drawing in Parisian schools. In 1974, her encounter with the Art Brut collection curated by Jean Dubuffet challenged her traditional academic training and greatly influenced her artistic approach. Larus currently lives and works in Paris, and her paintings and sculptures are held in various private and public collections, including the Neuve Invention Collection in Lausanne.
